15 weeks...

The triathlon is 15 weeks from today!!!

In order to be ready, I know I will need to be much much better about training in the future than I was this week!!! I went to spin on Wednesday and Friday and went swimming yesterday. And... that's it. Yikes!!

I've been avoiding running like the plague.

My goal this week: Go to spin at least twice, swim at least twice, and start the couch-to-5k running program!!

I think I'm really gonna do it....

For some reason, doing a triathlon has appealed to me for a long time. I'm not a big runner, so doing just a 5k or half marathon isn't really up my alley.

This summer, a friend invited me to swim with her (something I had considered getting back into for awhile). I loved the pool!! I swam in elementary and junior high school, but hadn't really since then. I've heard it's a great whole-body workout. Well, actually now I know it's a great whole body workout!! It's amazing how quickly I get out of breath!! I had gone swimming maybe 4 times before today, never keeping track of how far I was actually going. Today I kept track. I went over 1000 yards!! Granted, that was with resting at the wall and doing breaststroke for a few laps, but still. The triathlon I'm looking at doing has a 450 yard swim. I know I can do it!!!

A couple years ago, another friend got me completely hooked on spin class. Then I married a man who loves to go mountain biking. I do like cycling: I feel like I'm really getting somewhere while I am completely out of breath (vs running where it takes forever to get anywhere plus I feel like I'm dying). This past week we went to Breckenridge with my family and we biked 3 different days. The first day we biked about 12 miles, the second day we biked about 14, and the last day we biked 10. The triathlon I'm looking at doing has a 13 mile bike ride. I know I can do it!!!

And the running. ::sigh:: I am so not a runner. But again, this is something else I have wanted to try for awhile. I even started running on the treadmill a few months ago, just to see what it's like. I had always avoided the treadmill, preferring the elliptical or even the stair climber. The longest I've run at one time is 11 minutes. I know that running is definitely the activity I will need to improve in the most. The triathlon I'm looking at doing ends with a 5k. 3.1 miles. I can do it.... right??!!??

Here is the triathlon I'm looking at doing. It is 16 weeks from this coming Sunday!! What do you think??
